Hey im doing a gentoo install on a system.

i went though the whole process of setting everything up, mounting the discs, extracting the stage 1 tarball. doing the mirror select, etc.

i chrooted the system, and run the cd /usr/portage; scripts/bootstrap.sh

that went through fine and emerged things like glibc, ncurses, etc.

now im doing an emerge system

i have done 3 packages and now i have hit a problem

all my mirrors are getting host not found apart from one which gets connection refused.

now my question is what can i do

i dont have any text editors to edit my make.conf with different mirrors

i dont have mount to mount the cdrom to re run mirror select

i dont have umount to unmount my partitions and reboot the system safely

is there anyway to recover from this without haveing to hard reset the system?

thanx

you could do an echo "#" > make.conf

And overwrite the make.conf file

and then write a new one using >> to add each line.

I don't think you need to do anything but wait. I used emerge a couple times today now all of a sudden I can't connect to a mirror to save my life. It must a Gentoo mirror problem.
