I just completed a stage1 install, and am getting errors trying to emerge X11. I noticed when it started, it had detected another X-install, FWIW. I think the error message is:

Code:

Including in programs/xkbcomp/symbols/xfre86....
make[5]: Entering directory /var/tmp/portage/xorg-x11-6.7.0-r1/work/xc/programs/xkbcomp/symbols/xfree86'
No rule to make target 'includes'. Stop
Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/xorg-x11-.....
...
..
.
!!!! ERROR: x11-base/xorg-x11-6.7.0-r1 failed.
!!!! Function src_compile, line671 Exitcode2
!!!! (no error message)

Any help at all folks, I'm out of my league here.

Nah, it's got nothing to dso with another X11 installation - X.Org is basically XFree86 4.4.0 with some license changed so there are lots of places where the xfree name still appears.
Can it be that you'vew run out of space on the file system that includes /var? Can you post more of the error?

No, I'm sorry, I can't at the moment, I'm having all sorts of computer trouble lately  .... I've rebooted it a couple times due to other matters, so the message is gone (and I don't know where to find it). I was able to 'start' an Xserver of some sorts (not even sure which one at this point), but that's locking up partway through startup. It's a fresh install, so I guess I have a few kinks to work out (should have gone stage3).

I'm having almost the same error as ReeferMac... My line number is different (626) but I have the same exitcode and function.

I've got no GUI on my gentoo machine(heh), so I'm going to transcribe what I can over to this one...

Code:
make[3]: *** No rule to make target 'includes'. Stop.
make[3]: Leaving directory '/var...'
make[2]: *** [includes] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory '/var/...'
make[1]: *** [includes] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/var/...'
make: *** [World] Error 2

!!! ERROR: x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.0-r3 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 626, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)
!!! If you need support...blah blah blah.

Sorry man, dunno what to tell you (I'm about to flip on over to my gentoo box to try to finish up parts of my 2nd install (first one bought it on a FS error)).

See if you can't get it to go a second time, or try starting SSH and doing it remotely, so you can copy/paste more of the error message. The folks here are pretty helpful if they've got enough info to work with. Sometimes I've had luck trying to directly emerge ebuilds of different packages...

Code:
emerge  /usr/portage/path-to-ebuild-file/

There's also a --oneshot flag you can use sometimes, but check the man page for issue's.

Yay I've got more screen space off this LiveCD.
Code:

glint_dri.c: In function 'GLINTDRISwapContext':
glint_dri.c:1856: internal compiler error: in schedule_block, at half-shced.c:2229
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
see <URL:http://bugs.gentoo.org/> for instructions.
The bug is not reproducible, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem.

make[7]: Leaving directory '/var/...'
make[6]: *** [all] Error 2
make[6]: Leaving directory
make[5]: *** [all] Error 2
make[5]: Leaving directory
make[4]: *** [hw/xfree86] Error 2

make[2]: *** [all] Error 2

This one was booted off the liveCD then chrooted to my real system...

So, I'm seeing glint_dri which leads me to belive that it has something to do with the ati DRI drivers. Early on with this system I did an emerge ati-drivers (ati_drivers? I don't remember...) Maybe I need to unmerge them? I'll go check the Radeon FAQ. And do the bug report too, since it said to :-p
