Hi,
During the transition between hotplug/coldplug few weeks ago, I did re-merge an older hotplug before understanding that I need to emerge coldplug. I then re-emerge the latest hotplug. Well, that was a bit of a mess...
Now, when I boot, I've got some errors from coldplug saying :
/etc/hotplug/pci.rc: line 41: /sbin/hotplug no such file or directory.
Indeed the script does call for /sbin/hotplug at this line. And the hotplug binary is missing. I checked and saw that /sbin/hotplug is coming from package hotplug-base. So I re-emerge it and the binary did come back.
Unfortunately with this new script, I have now a strange behavior : X doesn't want to start automatically. I need to log as root in the console and run kdm manually to get it started. If I remove the binary /sbin/hotplug, the problem does not appear !
So, what can I do about that ? Should I keep the binary and try to understand what prevent X to start ? Or remove the binary and try to remove the warning uring coldplug starting ? Or... ? |

keep the binary and try adding kdm to rc.local by editing /etc/conf.d/local.start _________________ vi? *snicker* it doesn't even include a mail reader... |

Thanks for the suggestion.
When I add kdm to local.start, I get :
Failed to start local : kdm No such file or directory
(ok, not a problem, but then I have also the following error which is more intriguing) :
* ERROR: Problem starting needed services. "bootsplash" was not started.
I'm still using Kernel 2.6.7 with bootsplash enabled and started in "default".
When I add the full path of kdm to local.start, X starts but is stuck at the beginning with the error :
* ERROR: could not start the Display Manager. |
