|
|
I'm trying to get my wife to switch from win2k to Gentoo. I have shown her that there is and msn messenger clone, amsn which looks like the ms msn. Flash and Java applets work in Mozilla and Konqueror. Pretty much all the stuff that she uses on win2k there is a linux clone for.
Well, there must be some other way to get her to switch beside showing her all the same stuff that win2k can already do but now on linux.
If you want to reply with some bit of humor, go ahead, but I do want to know how to get her to switch. Maybe someone else out there has had to do the same thing and can tell me how they did it.
Thanks a ton. _________________ AssociateX

Well, you can tell her that you're going to offer more help and support if she switches to Gentoo, and make sure everything goes smooth with the switch, has she tried to use Gentoo? Even for a short period of time? What does she think about it?
Tell her that she will be safer with Gentoo, no viruses or spyware, almost every Windows user has some experiences with those, and prefers a system that's not vulnerable to them.
A couple of thoughts out of my head. |

Don´t try to convince her.
Just stop offering support for Mouffindow$
And give her a copy of Knoppix |

Hmmm... being married and stuff I can relate to what you want. I can't help tho... my wife installed Gentoo on her own, heck she built the comp by herself, I only bought the parts and almost went nuts watching her for 3 hours while she was figuring out how to put in the CPU... or the hdd... (she never saw a comp from the inside in her life... she never installed a single piece of software before either - Gentoo handbook rocks that much ). And now she gets pissed everytime she's forced to use a Win box.
So yeah... sorry I couldn't help. Hmmm maybe if you pay her a day in a spa and do it yourself in secret... she wouldn't even notice (or she would after a couple of weeks when the box refused to crash )
BTW - show her some of our tasty looking Gentoo desktops. I always get a kick out of seing people go: "Wow!!! that looks awesome... what is it?" "Linux." "OMGWTF?!?! I WANT!" |

I just quit fighting the spyware and stuff on the windows computer until it was almost unusable and my wife moved over to gentoo just to get a working computer. Now she loves it and hates it when she has to use a windows computer. |

Wow, those were fast replies.

Yeah, she won't even go for that, she's a stick in the mud.
gen2fox, She knows she has my full help/support with gentoo. Yes, we dual boot(I would rather not dual boot and just have strait gentoo) on this box so she's web browsed on gentoo before. I don't know what she really thinks of gentoo, she just says, " I just like windows". She knows about Gentoo being safer/more-stable.
BlackEdder, haha.
Spyretto, Yeah, I have really cut out the win2k support, mostly because I have not used windows for a couple of years now and would rather not refresh my memory on how to keep it running.
Pithlit, I love my wife dearly but it must be nice to have a wife like yours. We already dual boot, so yeah, she would notice.
...Oh well, we have dual booted for a long time now, we'll probably just keep it this way until she sees the light. All your answers are appreciated but no magic wand answers yet. Hmmm, maybe I should covertly grill her in an unsuspecting way( the best I can) to gather info of which I can make a persuasive argument to her.
I don't know, keep the post coming though, this may help other married people. _________________ AssociateX
