|
|
I will give the forums a try before I revert back to the old windows "when in doubt, format and reinstall" Here is my system: 2.6.10-gentoo-r2 kernel, Marvel 1GB lan (sk98lin), system compiled with ~x86 / udev / ntpl.
Here is my problem:
The system was up and working great. Never had a network problem other than having to manually load the sk98lin module on the LiveCD. Most of the system is emerged, just missing some user apps. I rebooted yesterday to try and correct a wild kacpid process that was eating 50% of my CPU time. Upon reboot the network was gone.
By gone I mean the following:
eth0 comes up at boot without error. The sk98lin module is loaded. ifconfig shows the correct IP (static) and route shows the correct gateway. If I ping www.gentoo.org I get a unknown hostname. If I ping 192.168.0.5 (a mandrake box on my network) I get a Destination Host Unreachable.
What I have checked:
I have gone through and made sure the domain and nameserver was listed in /etc/resolv.conf. verified the setup of /etc/conf.d/net, /etc/dnsdomainname, /etc/hostname, /etc/hosts. I have also brought down eth0, reloaded the sk98lin module and brought it back up. All with out error, but all without success.
Right now I am pulling out my hair because I can't think of anything else to try. I can't ping the gentoo box from my mandrake box either. But I can ping the gentoo box from itself.
If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. You are also welcome to stop by the gentoo IRC channel on freenode and give me a shout. (IdeAlEss)
I expect I will give up by tomorrow and just format and reinstall. At least I would feel like I was doing something and most likely get it fixed faster anyway. I would really reather resolve it if you can help.
Thanks!

This system doesn't have two NICs does it? I've seen systems swap the phyiscal interfaces assigned to eth0 and eth1 on such systems. |
