ok, maybe i am having a massive brainfart, but i sustain that i used to do my batch renaming with the simple command
Code:
rename -s/pattern/newpattern/ *

this is not the normal rename, but the emerged one. for some reason this doesn't work anymore. i reemerged it, too. no go. bwarg.
help, please, i don't want to learn regex.

Problem is, rename is rename no more. It's called xmrename now, rename is from baselayout and I'm damned if I know what it's good for.
EDIT: OK, had a look at the manpage, now I know and I'm also damned now, I guess.

while that's amazingly wonderful to know (and i always thougt it stupid that rename and rename were called the same), it would be wonderful if portage'd tell me something like that. harump and bah.

also why they don't put it in an enotice. "oh, btw, the binary is xmrename now."..."oh wait, that didn't poll well. it's renamexm now"
