I have a card that supports 8x AGP, an Asus A7N8X motherboard that also supports it, yet I only get 4x. Whats the deal?

Are you absolutely sure your card is 8X compatible? Have you checked BIOS settings that 8X mode is not disabled?

I have the same motherboard and ATI Radeon 9800SE, works fine for me @ 8X agp setting :)

If you got an nvidia put this in /etc/modules.d/nvidia :
Code:

options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1 NVreg_ReqAGPRate=8

And use nvagp instead of agpgart
