UT2003/UT2004 - are mods compatible?

Epic plans to make Unreal Tournament like a sports game, e.g. have new incarnations be released at certain intervals.

So, Im wondering, how does this affect the mod scene?
I mean there are some great mods for UT2k3/2k4 out there. Do all the mod makers upgrade their mods to use the newer engine? Can a 2003 mod be run with UT2004?

For me the strongest selling point of games such as quake and unreal tournament is the fact that you dont only buy the games, but you also get the ability to play some fantastic mods, which are like a whole new game for the price of one.

quite some ut2003 mod teams have released ut2004
versions or are working on a conversion.

ut2003 mods can not be run with ut2004.
