I had a post over in the amd64 forum where my gcc died. (Tried to compile itself on an emerge of world and died regardless of what i did.) No one answered my post or bothered explaining how I could externally re-emerge gcc. So, I tried some stuff with the livecd.
Re-emerging...
Unpacking stage1 tarball... (now the machine boots but gives me a fsck error and won't accept any of my username/passwords!)
Bootstrapping...
Overall reinstalling... (installed a new portage snapshot, went through some steps)
I got errors and lots of them. Like, when I tried unpacking the stage1 tarball, I got an 'exit delayed from previous errors.' Also, now whenever I try to chroot, all that I get is a frelling Segmentation Fault message, nothing else. env-update also had some weirdness.
Now since I've messed up my installation, what is the best plan of action? |

By the way, I'm running install-amd64-universal-2004.3-r1. If I do so much as these commands:
mount /dev/hda3 /mnt/gentoo
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
I get a seg fault from chroot. The drive does mount perfectly well. |
