You start wandering around looking for your wallet and the first thing that pops into your head is "emerge wallet".
Yes, that really just happened to me .

hehe... that's nothing...
I sometimes wish I could
emerge rsync && emerge -eu life
to get up to date... however
root@pilot david # emerge life
Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds to satisfy "life".
See I have no life |

Maybe someone should create a life ebuild.... probably not possible though, the dependencies would be horrendous.
I wonder how they'd take it over at bugs.gentoo.org if i requested one...

You do have life!! It's just that none of the ebuilds on your system are able do satisfy 'it'. _________________ Lego my ego, and I'll lego your knowledge

I heard rumors of the 'life' feauture from an unsecure informant among the kernel developers. The rumors are based in that after 2.6 is released and they start working on the 2.7 tree - 'life' will be an experimental module. Where will this end? |

I don't think that I could ever leave Gentoo again purely because of the great help, advice and (occasional) sheer irrelevance of these forums |

Absolutely superb. The documentation is excellent and the forums are extremely helpful. I'll drink to that _________________ Sex, Drugs, Flatt and Scruggs.. |

Apart from a few times where no one else had my problems, I love these forums, and it's the only reason I stick with Gentoo. I don't see any huge increase in my system speed (old computer doesn't help), I don't have any reason to stay, except for the fact that I can actually get answers to make my computer work from this community.
Yay! |

Personaly, I love it here
I have 2 extremes and I love it.
On the one hand I have one of the lesss "user friendly" distributions I have ever tried. Nothing installed, you have to do everything yoursef. I love it.
on the other there is a GREAT community that will help you for when the documentation fails you. And the doc's great _________________ Someone asked me once if I suffered from mental illness. I told him I enjoyed every second of it. |

This community is fantastic! I just completed my first Gentoo install and while it mostly went smoothly (thanks to some of the finest documentation I've ever seen), I did run into a couple of issues all of which were quickly resolved by searching these forums. Now I find myself falling in love with linux all over again.
Thank you one and all! _________________ "Without deviation from the norm, 'progress' is not possible." - Frank Zappa |

Well, as you can tell from my
<=== info on the left
I've been here a while, and I'm still a noob (What's up with that, by the way!). Thus proving just how helpful these forums are. Most times (95%-ish), the answers are already answered, not requiring me to pester anyone.
That is great!
Keep up the great work everyone!

Hi Inte!
The online documentation and Gentoo forum is an absolute gift from the heavens. All other linux distros just don't seem to get it (no flamebait intended)

I installed it for my first time ever at the start of the week. It took me 3 whole days to get it up and running with KDE, sound, graphics and a perfectly made kernel.
After playing with it for a couple of hours I re-partitioned my hard drive and reinstalled windows. As soon as I booted into my new win2000 install(need to run Autocad 2004 and my precious games), I was hit with msblaster. What a nice present to be giving for returning to windows.
The problem now is that I think I'm addicted to the actual installation of Gentoo (who cares about using it? That's what windows is for ). I want to do it again and see how fast I can do it. I reckon I can get it down to a day. Must...resist. I think I'll get another hard-drive so I can dual boot and so I can hone my Gentoo installation skills. |
