Hi guys,
I have an ipod 20Gb. It works perfectly in linux. I keeped the hfsplus partition
and I am using gtkpod.
Now I want to use the part of the hard drive that is empty to make some backups.
The problem is that everytime I try to copy a file, the system complains telling me
that I am trying to copy to a read only filesystem. That is of course
not true because I can copy stuff using gtkpod.
My question is: Is there anyone out there using his/her ipod as a external harddrive?
Thanks. |

Well... that is what happend:
My ipod was formatted using the hfs+ filesystem. If you don't umount and
eject propertly the ipod before to remove it from the usb bus, the filesystem
will be in a dirty state so the next you mount the partition it will be mounted
as a read-only. So that was the problem. To fix it you need to run some kind
of fsck.hfs+. The problems is that, appreantly, there is no applications to
do that.
What I did is to reformat my ipod using the fat32 filesystem. Fat32 filesystem
is better supported in linux. BTW, I seized the opportunity to upgrade the
ipod's firmware. |

Well, yes you can have an Ipod as disk mode, but i think you have to enable it in itunes, so unless you have a Mac/Windows Comp or use iTunes in Wine then I think if you mount it you can still put stuff on it, just cd to the ipod mount directory and it should be there.
