|
|
Hello!
Last night I started installing Gentoo Stage 3 using the networkless installation with the Universal Live CD and the 2004.3 handbook. It was getting late, so I decided to stop when I came to Sec. 7.d, and had finished the command "genkernel all".
Now I would like to start from that point again, so the next step was to do an "emerge hotplug", but then it just responds this back to me:
Code: |
livecd root # emerge hotplug
-/bin/bash: emerge: command not found
|
Isn't it possible to resume, og should I start all over again?
Thanks in advance!

I think that you should chroot again and then continue with emerge hotplug.
So what you have to do is go to step 6 of the handbook. |

If you've rebooted the CD, just make sure you have re-mounted the /mnt/gentoo... mounts (section 4.e on mine) first. |

Well, it seems like I'll have to go back and extract the stage the tarball, because this failed
Code: |
# tar -xvjf /mnt/cdrom/snapshots/portage-20041022.tar.bz2 -C /mnt/gentoo/usr
|
and told me that /mnt/gentoo/usr didn't exist.

Eh, NO.
You mount stuff and then chroot and just continue... You NEVER have to extract the tarball. |

Nah - do the mounts, skip to 6 (for /proc and chroot), and continue on.
Do as little as you have to |

It's partially described in our Tips 'n Tricks document. Just assume that "recovering" means "continuing" and you're all set |

1. Run LiveCD again.
2. mount /dev/hdax /mnt/gentoo (where x is partition number)
3. mount /dev/hdax /mnt/gentoo/boot (if you have boot partiton)
4. mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
5. swapon /dev/hdax (turn on your swap)
6. cp /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf
7. you can set your root pasword (passwd)
8. chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
enjoy |

Yes.
And it would be nice for you to edit the title of this thread, and insert [SOLVED] into it. |
