I ran out of space whilst emerging OO and it broke a few things, mostly fixed... but am still having problems with FF;
I can load it and use it, the search bar wasn't remembering any of the search engines i had installed (and didnt show nay logo and wouldnt let me search using it...) this has been fixed by re-emerging FF which overwrote what i had with the default ones...

The problem is extensions..... it seems to have forgotten what is installed:
I can use the installed extensions (e.g. the banwidth checker which is in the tools menu, or stumble upon which can be added as a tolbar as per normal), but in the extensions 'pop-up' it showess only the DOM inspector thing and notyhing else...
I cannot install new extensions either (either reinstalling them or trying new ones)

I was thinking it may be a permissions problem in the extensions folder:
Code:
alex in ~/.mozilla/firefox/lnhpifo4.default/extensions @12:10 (14/01) # ls -l
total 56

Or maybe the Extensions.rdf or the installed-extensions.txt may be wrong:
Code:

This is just details of the things i have recently tried (and failed ) to install...
Code:
alex in ~/.mozilla/firefox/lnhpifo4.default/extensions @12:19 (14/01) # less installed-extensions.txt
theme,{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Now this looks like it should have the details of what is installed and also maybe be the problem for not being able to install new...

I am at sea here i'm afraid,

Thanks in advance for your help.
Alex

Well, it seems that the same is also true for the search engines in the search bar as for the extensions... i can't install any more...

hmm... delete .mozilla, emerge -C and re-emerge?? or do i have any other options?

So, have you tried to back up your profile directory and re-install an extension? I don't use any so I can't really help you debug the problem.

Moved from Networking & Security.

I can't install extensions (whether it's a reinstall or a new extension...) same goes with the search engines... hmmm....

In which case is there anything important i need to back up (appart from bookmarks of course...) before emerging and deleting the ~/.mozilla/firefox??

Will report how it goes...

If you haven't done anything yet, just move ~/.mozilla someplace else and try starting firefox to see if it works normally again. Keep bookmarks, saved passwords that you've forgotten... With a complete copy of the profile you don't have to be afraid to lose something important.

I have removed ~/.mozilla (backing up the bookmarks first) and then
Code:
emerge -C mozilla-firefox
rm ~/.mozilla
emerge mozilla-firefox

This solved most of the problems with the one exception of search engines... for some reason though I can install extensions again I can't install search engines... it just does nothing....

All very strange.

Thanks
Alex
