I'm running 2.6.9-r6, and having trouble getting my ALPS touchpad working right on my Compaq r3140. I've seen everything about setting up the synaptics driver, but my problem is that the kernel doesn't usually detect the touchpad at all. I think my kernel configuration is right because sometimes after turning the touchpad on and off 5-10 times it starts working, but it's not using the synaptics driver. When it is finally detected I get one line in dmesg:

Code:

$ dmesg
input: PS/2 Generic Mouse on isa0060/serio4

I unmerged synaptics and the touchpad still works (sometimes). I think it's using the ps/2 driver in the kernel...

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the kernel detect this more reliably, and not use the internal driver?

Thanks,
John
