|

Hello. Yesterday i messed up my kernel, when i tried to solve the problem with a chroot i couldn't, it said "FATAL: Kernel too old" which is because my livecd's kernel is only a 2.4 and my computer is a 2.6.9.
Okay. now i have to find a livecd i can chroot from and it is required to have a 2.6.9 (or newer).
I've searched the web and found this: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Gentoo_2004.2_for_linux_2.6_and_NPTL
It says:
Code: |
Now boot from the LiveCD and type smp at the boot prompt.
boot: smp
smp is a 2.6 kernel that will allow proc to be populated with information from a running 2.6 kernel rather than a 2.4 kernel like gentoo. This is necessary in order for glibc to be compiled with NPTL support.
|
But my smp is not a 2.6 kernel.
Where can i find a livecd with a 2.6 kernel? _________________ Laptop: Zepto 2314W, Pentium M 730, 512 Mb Pc-3200

Gentoo 2004.3 has a 2.6 kernel... get it from http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml
If that doesn't work for you, you could try the latest knoppix with the linux26 boot option. |

Perhaps you should learn how to put multiple kernels in grub.conf
That way if you can't boot from a new one (that you've "messed" with), you can boot from the last working one instead. |
