|

Just ot Gentoo installed and booting, but 2 questions.
1/ I have an error that appears as the kernel starts, but scrolls off the screen before I can read it. How can I get to this ? I assume it's logged in a file somewhere?
2/ I also get this:
Code: | unknown-domain (Linux i686 2.6.10-gentoo-r4) 22:30 |
I know the 22:30 bit tis the time
HOw do I cure this ?
TIA

1. Yes, and no.. the kernel boot log is accessible by running
The less bit is so you can actually scroll through it...
2. You have not set a domain name for your system (not that important), and no hostname either (a bit more of a bother).
You skipped the bit that goes:
Code: | cat "myhostname" >/etc/hostname |
Boy for all those dudes that claim they read the manual but missed this or that... _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

dmesg didnt show the error but I managed to interupt the startup with "ctrl C", the meeage reads: Code: | * checking root filesystem...
fsck: fsck.REiserFS: not found
fsck: Error 2 while executing fsck:ReiserFS for /dev/hda8 |
/dev/hda8 is my root partition..
Everything sems OK, but I assume the error was generated for a reason
any ideas ? _________________ A Signature free zone |

Yes, your /etc/fstab file has a typo (typos?), whereby you misspelt reiserfs (all lowercase letters) as "REiserfs" (capital 'R' and 'E'). Look through your /etc/fstab and correct the typo(s). |

... except that mine is a Kernel Panic & it checks for the XFS on root. My root partition is formated ext3. /boot is ext2. I am currently sans internet (cable is down & so is internet), so I'm not near my machine.
