It took me a while and a great deal of time on failed reiser4 GRUB patch attempts before I switched to LILO (I have 2 Linux partitions: / and swap, and / is reiser4, grub can't boot offa that). Now, Thankfully, I can boot again, but the bootloader is ugly. I had a nice splash screen going with GRUB and I don't think LILO follows the same format. I know LILO is capable of having a splash image from other distros (I believe it was Mandrake that used a lilo graphic).

How can I have a pretty splash screen on my LILO bootloader?

Unzip /usr/share/doc/lilo-22.5.8-r1/samples/ins64a.bmp.gz and /usr/share/doc/lilo-22.5.8-r1/samples/ins64a.dat.gz and copy them to /boot. Then add two lines to the global section of your lilo.conf:
Code:

bitmap = /boot/ins64a.bmp
install = bmp

That's it, it looks like this. There are a couple other samples in that same directory or you can make your own.
