I've been away from gentoo for a bit, and am not sure what this really means. It doesn't appear that exim is masked, but it doesn't want to change the mta.

Is there a way around this problem?

nod root # emerge exim
Calculating dependencies ...done!

!!! Error: the virtual/mta package conflicts with this package and both can't be installed on the same system together.
