add a root parameter to the grub kernel command, e.g.: Code: | kernel /bzImage root=/dev/hda5 |

We can help you... Please give us your root disk major and minor number please. Or, failing that, your /dev/hd* specification for the root disk.

i think my fstab is fine, it is laid out to my system set up just like on the manual of Gentoo. it is just the grub that is the problem.
there is and error with this line:
kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hdb3
what do you think? remember this is an error with the grub layout |

just to make sure it's not a typo: you really installed grub into the mbr of your first disk (hda for linux and hd0 for grub), your boot partition (/boot) is located on your first disk (hda1 for linux and hd0,0 for grub), and your root partition (/) is on your second disk drive and known as hdb3 for linux and hd1,2 for grub? |

When in grub use grub references:
hda -> hd(0)
hda1 -> hd(0,0)
hda2 -> hd(0,1)
etc. |

but
/dev/hde = (hd0)
if it's the first hard drive - ie. you've got dvd and burner on normal ide, and hard drive running off an onboard ata133 controller or something.
so really
(hd0) points to your first hard drive ?? _________________ Kororaa install method - have Gentoo up and running quickly and easily, fully automated with an installer! |

I'd venture to guess it's kernel related. I've seen it before, but I don't know
offhand what caused it. Every time I've seen it, I just ran a make mrproper
on my kernel and redid the configuration from scratch again, and it's always
worked for me.
I know it's not that specific an answer, but I think it's a good pointer in what
is probably the right direction.
