Hi Folks,
My fresh Gentoo-Box locks me out sometimes  I really don't know why.
When I boot the machine, it runs fine. But after some uptime (i couldn't find any regularity) sshd accepts no more connections. When i try to connect from ANYWHERE it just says: | Code: | | ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host |
When i try to login via the serial console, it prompts for username and pw. But when i type in user and pw it just sits there for 60 seconds and puts me back to the prompt with | Code: | | Login timed out after 60 seconds |
I tried different kernel-configurations, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Although i had more frequent lockups with grsecurity set to "high".
Some webpage said, that it could be due to incorrect PTY-setup. Any ideas?
Ah - i almost forgot my setup:
hardened-sources with grsec at "low"
USE="apache2 authdaemond hardened imap innodb java mysql pic sasl vhosts -..."
NO ~x86
PS: Yeah, i posted a similar thread about a week ago, but some things have changed... I don't get it  |

Did you find anything in the logs? I would try grepping your logs. Note when it happens, then reboot the machine and look at the logs around that time.
You may want to wait a while after it blocks you, so that the log file gets written.

Thanks for your reply. I tried that one when my Box locked me out today. I rebootet it app. 2 hours after the "ssh/login-lockout".
But guess what? The box stopped logging on Feb. 14th at 10.30 pm
I'm not sure, but maybe its due to the grsec-support compiled into the kernel. As I posted before, I'm now with grsec set to "low". Lets have a look |
