Much of the time I'm using my laptop, it is for simple note taking in class... and I really don't need to see what I'm typing. In addition, the display can be distracting to those around me.
What I would like to do is kill the display backlight, and have it STAY OFF while I type. This can easily add HOURS to the battery life, and would be very useful. I can "fake" the situation by taping my lid switch down, but I'd like a more elegant solution.
I have acpid running, and I've added the DPMS option to my xorg.conf. I can successfully power the display down manually by typing "xset dpms force off". However, as soon as I type anything at all, the display wakes up again.
Any thoughts on how I could disable the display wake-up, and force it to stay off?
Thanks
