Don't know what to call this problem...

I've thought about it for a while now, and it hasn't been too annoying, except now that I can watch dvds with my computer, its getting up there.
The problem is this: if I don't use the mouse for a certain amount of time, around 10 minutes I think, the screen blacks out on me. I thought this was some kind of screensaver thing, so I configured xscreensaver, and its set at 30 minutes for the screensaver. I thought maybe this was some kind of power management thing for my monitor or something, but I have no idea where to start looking, since its unchecked in xscreensaver config, and under other OS's like winblows, it doesn't happen, so I don't think its a hardware issue. I've searched the forums, but since I don't know what this phenomena is accurately called (besides "the black out screen after 10 minutes problem" ), its kind of hard to find anyone else's solution to the problem.

If someone knows what this is and/or knows how to fix it, please help

just do this command or add it to rc.local
if will turn off the screen blanking

setterm -blank 0
