Squeezed it all in the topic!
I have a beautiful AMD64 installation ... Just succeeded in installing WELL the new ATI drivers on my Radeon 9600, glxgears WORKS, gives me about 1k frames per second, but, when I run doom3, ....
Quote: | ----- R_InitOpenGL -----
Setup X display connection
dlopen(libGL.so.1)
dlopen(libGL.so.1)
idRenderSystem::Shutdown()
signal caught: Segmentation fault
si_code 1
Was in fatal error shutdown: Unable to initialize OpenGL
Trying to exit gracefully..

*sigh*
Does anyone have any idea?
The DOOM III GNU/Linux FAQ says
Quote: | Do not send me reports about the game not working on ATI card. Either with fglrx driver or the DRI driver. We know about this already, and at this point there is nothing we can do. |
It also says...
Quote: | There are no amd64 builds planned at this time. However the 32 bit binaries will run in a native amd64 environement. |
I am on ALSA, which is not a problem anymore. _________________ Votre moment detente

This is the first time you run it? You didn't crank settings or anything? _________________ Gentoo: Stage3 w/ NPTL & udev, gcc 3.4.4 full rebuild

I've had an ATI the whole time. No settings changed, I _JUST_ got the new drivers to work.. Just got openGL for the first time on that computer. Gltron runs fine..
I'm getting more stuff now. Check this out ...

I have my system setup with new ATI drivers the 8.8.5 ones
however running doom3 gives me this
Code: | Setup X display connection
dlopen(libGL.so.1)
Initializing OpenGL display
Using XFree86-VidModeExtension Version 2.2
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DGA" missing on display ":0.0".
Failed to detect DGA DirectVideo Mouse
Free86-VidModeExtension Activated at 1280x800
Using 8/8/8 Color bits, 8 Alpha bits, 24 depth, 8 stencil display.
GL_RENDERER: Mesa GLX Indirect |
it still links to the Mesa stuff... anyone know anything? |

unmerge the drivers and follow this: Wedge_'s Radeon guide.
I followed the guide because I couldnt get it to work neither, 30mins later I am running perfectly!
also if you keep having problems then post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log _________________ http://www.phonics3k.com | http://www.phonics3k.co.uk
