gnome-applet textboxes only when killing windowmana [solved]

Since quite a while i have this problem where various textboxes do not receive focus when i click them.
Among them are the gnome-applets which have textboxes (command-line-applet and dict-applet), they never work, and the url-bar of the various browsers, which only sometimes fail and can be re"born" through clicking somewhere else first.

i tried 2 different windowmanagers, xfwm4 and metacity, but the problem is the same with both.

The only way to enter text into applets' textboxes is when i kill the windowmanager, then they receive the focus immediately.

Any Idea what could cause this??


update: fixed when updating to gnome-2.10-beta. The Cause was probably jumping around between 2.8 and 2.9
