mythfilldatabase not adding channels to the channels table

Im trying to get mythtv working, but have got stumped with getting the database to fill with channels. For some reason when you run mythfilldatabase it doesnt add the channels to the channels table in the database.

Consequently, when you run mythfilldatabase it doesnt recognise any of the channels and refuses to add them saying that the id is unknown.

Has anyone else had this problem??

yes, unfortunately :/

mythfilldatabase is tricky to get working at first, to say the least !
I don't use it at all (well I do, but I use the --file option to provide my own xmltv files).

I don't remeber the exact steps I had to take to get it working but there was a lot of fiddling involved. The main issue is : do you have a working xmltv grabber available for your country ?

if yes, then you can probably wipe the channels table in your db, and then run mythfilldatabase again with --manual. once the channels table looks ok you can just fill it with the --file option.

ok I realize this was not very clear but don't give up, it's worth all the trouble and more once you have myth running smoothly
