after tried the amd64 stage 1 install, i've installed gentoo x86 stage 1 on this laptop, coz i need wlan and ndiswrapper drivers are not available for amd64 arch.
but i'm having a big problem with xorg and the nvidia geforce 5700go.
using nvidia driver, when i startx i can see for a few seconds a strange corrupted screen, with many vertical thin lines changin color.
after 2 secs x start correctly. glx is working too. but when i exit xorg or i switch to VC, the corrupted screen come back, with the same vertical thin lines, that change slowly color for 10 secs, and then the system seems crashed. indeed it's not crashed, as i can still log in via SSH, and if i hit CTRL-ALT-CANC thes system reboots correctly.
i've tried both nvidia 6611 and 6629 driver: no change.
i've tried with 2.6.9-gentoo-r13, 2.6.10-gentoo-r5, and 2.6.10-ck4 sources: no change.
i've tried many options in the xorg.config: no change.
the only thing i know is that it only happens with nvidia driver, with nv everything works (even if i couldn't change resolution, it seems locked to 640x480, but i didn't really care much of this so i didn't even tried to set it up).
the sreally wierd thing is that with the amd64 stage1 compiled system, with 2.6.9-gentoo-r13 sources and nvidia 6611 driver, xorg was running flawlessly.
i've another desktop system too (conf in sign), with nvidia card and same kernel sources, and it works as well.
any clue? _________________ il gattaccio
