My touchpad just stopped working today. I didn't make any changes to any configurations; I just booted one day and the cursor doesn't respond to motion on the touchpad or clicks on the buttons anymore.
Previously, when I moved my finger on the touchpad, /dev/input/mouse0 (symlinked by /dev/psaux and /dev/mouse) would have all sorts of output. Now, there's nothing. If I put in a usb mouse, it works fine and the motion goes to /dev/input/mouse0.
What could happen that would make the touchpad stop giving input to the /dev file? And can somebody think of a reason besides hardware failure so that I don't have to replace this laptop?
Thanks!
FIXED: Installed BIOS upgrade from Toshiba. Works fine now. (knock wood.) _________________ vi? *snicker* it doesn't even include a mail reader...

I know you said you didn't do anything, but did you do any etc-update? New conf files and such? I have had that before. These things don't crop up until you reboot.
BTW, I suggest replacing it with my favorite laptop, the Sharp Actius MP30!

Just kidding! I wish I had one of these - 4.5 hours on a ch4rge, and just FEEL the transmeta EFFICEncy! _________________ Get Serious - Get JAWA CZ |

I really changed nothing. Honest. Nothing at all. Not an etc-update, not a dispatch-conf, nary a modules-update to be found. The timestamps on xorg.conf are from months ago. udev has been running for 6 weeks.
It vexes me. I am sorely vexed. _________________ vi? *snicker* it doesn't even include a mail reader... |

I just had this problem start last night.
I tried a bunch of stuff, but wasn't getting anything in any of the /dev/input/eventx or /dev/input/mousex listings.
I recompild my kernel .. no luck... no hidden options in the BIOS.
But, apparently Fn+F9 is supposed to be a picture of the touchpad for enable/disable. 1 of my roommates must have tapped that by accident when he was borrowing it. Either way, it made my touchpad work again. Hope this is able to help someone in the future.
For reference: I'm using a Toshiba Satellite M35x-S311 _________________ :-/ |
