lilo bios checking

im having a problem, i moved from a vida linux (gentoo port stage 3 install) to a complete gentoo system, and all is fine, but now im using lilo to boot and those 3 seconds (usually) when it does BIOS checking has shot up to about 1-2 minutes, now this isnt a big deal since my entire system works, but any idea why or how i can fix this?

some info.
hda1 swap 512mb
hda2 boot 64mb
hda3 root 7gig
hda4 home 32gig

any ideas?
