Automatic download an LDAP addressbook??

I have a central LDAP addressbook running om my Gentoo server.
The problem is dat all email clients (Thunderbird, outlook, evolution, etc)
won't show the contacts, you have to search for one.
Is it possible to download all the contacts automaticly during the startup of
my email client? That way I can browse my contacts and add them to the "to"
list.
