I emerged (-u) latest hsflinmodem which previously was working for me, but after solved the config files under /etc and running "# hsfconfig" I get the following (error) result:

Code:
Warning: existing HSF modules found under /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/misc/
Would you like to keep using them? [no]

This package does not contain pre-built modules suitable for your system:
        Distribution: unknown-unknown
        Kernel arch: i686
        Kernel version: linux-2.4.19-gentoo-r10

Trying to automatically re-compile the modules..
(this requires a C compiler and proper kernel sources to be installed)

Where is the linux source build directory that matches your running kernel?
[/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/build]
/usr/sbin/hsfconfig: line 1: gcc: command not found

WARNING: the kernel version () defined in
/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/build/include/linux/version.h
does not match the currently running kernel (2.4.19-gentoo-r10)
The cause of this problem is an incorrect kernel source path.
Please check that /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/build points to the right tree.
The cause of this problem is usually a missing or misconfigured
kernel source tree (and sometimes an incorrect directory or symbolic link).
/usr/sbin/hsfconfig: line 1: gcc: command not found

Re-compiling HSF modules for kernel , using source directory
/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/build. Please wait..

ERROR: Module re-compilation and installation failed!
Please examine the log file "/tmp/hsfconfig-buildlog.txt" to determine why.

I have an idea of what this is, in the sense as I'm running unstable (gcc 3.2.1-r6), but don't know how to deal with or solve it. I have a similar issue whit Vmware which also don't find any gcc when running the config script. Everything else seam to have no problem finding gcc and compile flowlessly.

What do I have to do? re-emerge the sources and recompile kernel or is such drastic move not nessesarry/useless?

The errorlog result mentioned above goes:
Code:
/bin/sh: line 1: gcc: command not found
../modules/kernelcompiler.sh: unable to find compiler matching /proc/version:
../modules/kernelcompiler.sh: gcc version 3.2
../modules/kernelcompiler.sh: set CC variable manually in modules/common.mak
/bin/sh: line 1: gcc: command not found
/bin/sh: line 1: gcc: command not found
/bin/sh: line 1: gcc: command not found
rm -f *.o *.a
/bin/sh: line 1: gcc: command not found
../../modules/kernelcompiler.sh: unable to find compiler matching /proc/version:
../../modules/kernelcompiler.sh: gcc version 3.2
../../modules/kernelcompiler.sh: set CC variable manually in modules/common.mak
/bin/sh: line 1: gcc: command not found
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/lib/hsf/modules/osspec'
rm -f *.o *.a
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/lib/hsf/modules/osspec'
/bin/sh: line 1: gcc: command not found
Unable to determine version of kernel source directory /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/build
make: *** [check_kernelver] Error 1

I would be grateful for any input in possible resolving this before I go ahead and possibly crash completely by recompiling kernel etc.

gcc-3.2.1-r6 is still very beta... I've seen other problems related to it. I'd advise to go back to 3.2.1

Yes I realize it's very beta and should be masked really. Went back to 3.2.1-r1 and solved it, also my vmware config issues.

I had a similar problem about programs not finding gcc. I simply did "env-update && source /etc/profile". Everything seems to be working fine now.
