On Edit
After a whole lot of Googling, it appears that the Quantum M1500 is supported in Linux, using the 'mtx' package.
----------------------

We're setting up some new hardware at work, and want to back up a bunch of stuff to tape. When I say, "a bunch of stuff," I mean, "up to 3 TB at a time." The guy actually in control of the project (and money I'm spending) likes the capacity/specs of the Sun StorEdge L25 Library.

That would look purty on our racks (hey, you know it's important  ), since we're getting a boatload of Sunfire v20z Opteron systems.

Of course, the StorEdge L25 isn't officially supported on Linux by the fine folks at Sun, and getting them to admit whether or not it will even work is like pulling teeth! I found one reference on the MTX Compatibility List that mentioned getting the L25 (actually an OEM'ed Quantum ATL M1500) to work on Solaris 9 with the MTX software, but . . .

So does anyone have any knowledge of this drive working with Linux? What about the tape changer?

Does anyone have a better recommendation? As long as it will hold 2.5 - 3 TB of tapes at a time, and works with Gentoo, that would be fine.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

I'm installing Gentoo on sun4u Sun Fire 280R (UltraSPARC-III+) connected to "StorEdge D2" 218GB rackmount with SCSI cable.
The thing is that I can't see it with fdisk, I don't know what device should I make fdisk on?

May be there is a need to load some special driver?
How should I partition this StorEdge?

Please Help.
