I just installed gentoo, and i did a manual kernel install(downloaded 2.6.10 from kernel.org)...I have used gentoo before and what not..but I cannot get my portage system to use it...whenever i do emerge -pu ati-drivers for example it tries to grab gentoo-sources-2.4.28-r5 or something...how do i get it to recognize my linux-2.6.10 source? I already have created the /usr/src/linux link and it points to /linux-2.6.10...so what do you guys suggest I do?
I do not want to use gentoo sources...
Thanks

Just emerge development-sources. Development-sources is the stock 2.6 kernel fresh from kernel.org
Anyway, why the phobia of gentoo-dev-sources?
Because this is Gentoo, you have to use emerge or some other method to tell Portage that kernel-sources are installed. Nothing that is not considered "installed" by Portage will be seen by the rest of the system. Period. |

See homebrew-sources to see how to deal with your own kernel sources. |
