Ciao a tutti! :)
Ho provato per la prima volta a installare gli ATI drivers seguendo un pò di howto trovati in rete e seguendo le indicazioni riportate sul post inerente l'uscita dei nuovi driver. Ho una Radeon 9600 xt, e incredibilmente dopo l'installazione dei driver la macchina é ripartita senza problemi (Miracolo, non ho fatto grossi danni allora! :wink: ).
Ho generato con il glrxconfig un file di configurazione per Xfree (io uso Xorg), quindi ho modificato a mano lo stesso in riferimento al mio precedente file xorg.conf funzionante.

Il fatto è che volendo verificare un pò di cose ho provato a lanciare glxinfo da console, ottenendo come risultato un bel reboot di X :) e trovandomi quindi di nuovo di fronte alla schermata di login delle kde....
Qualcuno ha idee su cosa possa essere accaduto?!? Tenete conto che son nooby ma se servono log oppure file di configurazione da postare ditemi voi, se son capace lo faccio! :D

Prova a guardare /var/log/Xorg....
Magari ti da gia problemi d'avvio del server X, cmq che versione di xorg hai? Mi era capitato che si stincasse il pc

Ciao Mauro, grazie per l'attenzione. La versione di Xorg è la 6.8, ho guardato il file di log di xorg e non ho trovato errori (giusto un paio di warnings) ma non son per nulla sgamato quindi riporto il testo, scusatemi per la lunghezza del post! :D

non riesco a guardare un log di quella lunghezza... (magari prova a fare delle ricerche con una chiave x del tipo

GIà Antonio, mi rendo conto che il log è enorme, d'altro canto capendone poco non so realmente cosa possa esser significativo e cosa no. :cry:
Per quanto riguarda il problema... ho guardato su tutti i thread che parlano di ATI + Xorg, ma nessuno riporta quanto accade a me... ovvero, se lancio glxconfig da console la macchina si freeza per qualche secondo, dopodiché mi ritrovo davanti alla schermata di login di kde (imho é Xorg che crasha).
Perdonate la noobyness nel riportare il log, sono tristemente poco sgamato su queste cose, roba nuova per me!! :(
Il fatto è che quelli che ho visto sono tutti warnings tra l'altro, non ho la pallida idea di dove ricercare la gabola.

Scusate la mia ignoranza in materia di driver closed e accellerazione 3D, ma cosa sarebbe 'glxconfig'?

Cosa intendi con 'da console'? Ti riferisci a una finestra di terminale?

Dopo un "crash di X" prova a dare uno sguardo anche agli altri file di log, sia quello del kernel che /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old, se veramente é crashato X forse trovi qualche informazione in fondo.

tl'ho trovato facendo una semplice ricerca e usando come parole chiave "ati xorg crash glxinfo".... :wink:
se provi cercare spesso trovi che molte persone hanno già avuto lo stesso tuo problema.... a volte risolvi leggendo i loro post, altrimenti apri un topic nuovo o (meglio) continui su uno vecchio....

Seen.... ma purtroppo il thread è vecchio, il tizio ha problemi con Xorg 6.8 dovuti alle precedenti incompatibilità dei driver ATI... Ora che i driver ATI nuovi supportano Xorg6.8, le cose son un pò cambiate.
Insomma, ci ho dato un'occhiata ma non sembra rientrare nella descrizione del mio problema purtroppo. :-(

Avevo già provato Antonio, ma non mi sembrava che niente fosse simile o riferibile alle stesse cause del mio problema.
Thx anyway, appena avrò un pò di tempo ci cozzerò maggiormente la testa, magari salta fuori qualche info interessante su cui chiedere.

va in crash anche lanciando applicazioni che sfruttano le opengl (glxgears)?
Anche con fglrxinfo e fgl_glxgears??

anche qui avevano gli stessi problemi:

mi sa che ci sono ancora alcune incompatibilita' con xorg.
