Ok, so I had Gentoo installed on my primary hdd (8gigs) and all my data on a secondary (30 gig). Well my primary just crashed and I had to buy a new hdd.

The new hdd is 80 gig and I want to make it my secondary drive and just have Gentoo installed on the 30 gig. So I need to transferr all my data from my 30 to the 80 before i reinstall Gentoo again.

Can this be done with the Live CD, and if so how would i do it. Is it as simple as formatting the 80 gig then mounting both the drives and copying the data from one to the other?

just make sure you tihnk about your partitions for the 80gb first, as in, don't make one big 80gb partition if you want that data to be in /home and have a /storage or something. it'll save a lot of headaches :D

Yeah, I didnt even think about that. If you didnt say anything it probable would have been one big partition. Ill most likely have one for mt FTP server and one for my /home, might even leave som unpartitioned
