There is no libstdc package. I emerged libstdc++-v3 hoping that that would solve it, but it didn't. Any help would be appreciated.

/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/libstdc++.la
Didn't You upgrade GCC recently? Play around with gcc-config and/or fix_libtool_files.sh

I have the same exact problem here. I emerged gtk+-2.6.1-r1; however, it all breaks when I update my system...it reverts back to 2.4.14. If anyone knows what the deal is here...I'd appreciate it....I'm at a point where I can't update my system until I figure out how to keep it fron reverting back to the older gtk

Moved from Portage & Programming. Please see the FAQ GF18: Emerge fails after upgrading gcc. libstdc++.la missing Follow up to https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=278673

johnnymac: Different problem, use --tree to see what causes the downgrade and check your package.*
