I'm currently trying to print to a windows xp machine. I've emerged cups, foomatic, and ghostscript. Cups is configured and can connect to the printer. The printer model is HP OfficeJet V40, of which I downloaded a ppd off of linuxprinting.org

Here is the error message I am getting when I try to print a test page:

Code:

I [24/Jan/2005:14:08:01 -0500] Job 15 queued on 'hpoffice' by ''.
D [24/Jan/2005:14:08:01 -0500] Job 15 hold_until = 0
D [24/Jan/2005:14:08:01 -0500] StartJob(15, 0x10054a80)
D [24/Jan/2005:14:08:01 -0500] StartJob() id = 15, file = 0/1
E [24/Jan/2005:14:08:01 -0500] Unable to convert file 0 to printable format for job 15!
I [24/Jan/2005:14:08:01 -0500] Hint: Do you have ESP Ghostscript installed?
D [24/Jan/2005:14:08:01 -0500] CancelJob: id = 15

To prove ghostscript is installed:
Code:

root@mom-mac root # emerge search ghostscript
Searching...
[ Results for search key : ghostscript ]
[ Applications found : 3 ]

*  app-text/ghostscript
      Latest version available: 7.07.1-r7
      Latest version installed: 7.07.1-r7
      Size of downloaded files: 10,148 kB
      Homepage:    http://www.cups.org/ghostscript.php
      Description: ESP Ghostscript -- an enhanced version of GNU Ghostscript with better printer support
      License:     GPL-2 LGPL-2

root@mom-mac root #

Other windows machines can print just fine. I'm not really sure where to go from here.

My only goal is to have AbiWord print documents. If anyone could tell me how to accomplish this, it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

hi :D

do u have active the "cups" and "foomatic" USE flags in your /etc/make.conf? ghostscript need that u specify "cups" USE flag if u are going to use ghostscript with cups.

Emerge gnome-cups-manager. It makes setting up Samba printeres a breeze.

BlackHand: No, I did not have those USE flags set. I unmerged ghostscript, set the 'cups' and 'foomatic' in my USE flag and am re-merging ghostscript now.

Arainach: I am going to give the gnome-cups-manager a whirl as well.

Thanks guys,

yeah, i tried the suggestions mention. none seemed to work. And gnome-cups-manager would error saying "Could not connect to server"

Now, whenever I try to print a test page from the cups web manager it says "Ghostscript <version> loading..." and doesn't print. no error, but the printer does not print.

thanks,
