I used the 2.6 Kernel on my new Server. Unfortunatly the 2.6 was too unstable for my purposes, so I switched back to 2.4.

Now the Server is very slow. Top show a system usage of 20% to 30% for top itself an an extrem high system usage for other runing processes. Though I now, top is not very relieable in showing system usage, but its a good indicator. If I emerge something, it is not possible to login via ssh, the client will timeout before login is possible.

There is nothing really helpful in dmesg or the log.

Any Ideas, why my system is so slow?

Cheers JJ

did you re-emerge linuxl-headers and glibc ? (It was my understanding one _has_ to do these things, but maybe it's not 100% required...)

Had you tried 2.6.10? According to GWN it's the most stable kernel in some time

Much better,

it seamed to do the trick.

Thanks
JJ

PS: I tested the 2.6.9-ac10 and the 2.6.10-cko3 and both crashed with Lotus Domino after a while.
