Hi,
For some time now, there have been things going on with CD and DVD-burning with newer 2.6 kernels. See:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73529 and
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=247459 for example.
I've just installed gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r7 and I still can't burn DVD's. When I try (from k3B 0.11.1 , I get input/output errors and ruined disc. This is when I try to burn as a normal user. I haven't tried as root or with CD's, because I'm wasting empty discs rapidly here and simulating writing a DVD is not supported, for some reason.
I've searched a lot and I can't find any definitive answer. What should I do to be able to write DVD's again? I'd also like to know if those security changes mentioned everywhere made in the original 2.6 tree are the cause, or that the patches to bypass those changes are. And if dvd-writing should work again in 2.6.10-r7, why doesn't it on my computer?
It used to work with kernel 2.6.9-r9, but suddenly k3b can't find any devices anymore. I don't know why, because I haven't changed anything. Booting into 2.6.9 doesn't work anymore, it gives me kernel panicks. This started to happen when I enabled QoS and fair queing. It seemed that using net-modules which hadn't been recompiled after enabling QoS and fair queing caused that. That being the case, I can't explain why I get those panicks again when booting into my previous kernel, because the proper modules should exist.
Specs:
k3b: 0.11.18.
dvd+rw-tools: 5.21.4.10.8
cdrtools: 2.01
Kernel: gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.10-r7 |
