Hi Everyone,
I'm a complete N00b when it comes to linux and I've just made the crossover from windows. Everything went pretty smoothly except for one problem. I use KDE as my desktop manager and when it loads I hear the loading intro music but this ends abruptly when it finishes loading and all sound dissapears. I can't watch movies, listen music or anything.
I'm using a Asus Nforce 2 board with the default built-in Nforce 2 sound.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Oh, and Gentoo really rocks |

Hi,
I can't imagine what's the problem from your description but let's search.
Do you have some mysterious messages in your syslog after KDE started up?
(have a look at /var/log/messages or /var/log/kernel)
Try to play some music using the commandline.
Code: | aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav |
Any errors or sound?
Please post the output of cat /proc/asound/cards |

I don't get any error messages, but when I check under sound devices I get none listed.
I will try play the sound file when I get home for lunch.
Thanks for the help so far |
