Lol, no problem - I would have announced the new PPC build on the zetagrid forum aswell, but Sebastian wanted to see if I and maybe a few other hardy Gentoo PPC users were able to test that package and see if it works before announcing it.
I've been running zetagrid for the PPC since I made the announcement and so far no probs whatsoever:) F-R-O-H-L-O-C-K-E-T !!!
I'f I don't hear of any probs from you or somebody else, I'll mail Sebastian back tomorrow telling him that the PPC build seems to work for us, I suspect that he will make it available then in the download section, and make an official announcement:. |

Hi all!
We are in the TOP150 so just try to make us more popular and kick in new machines
The Zetagrid FAQ I created on http://cvs.gentoo.org/~tantive moved to another server the last days but is fully functional by now.

Well, ringo.zok.jp has delivered the first package and is now listed among its mightier x86-brethren, so I think we can assume the PPC version to be stable. One thing that did happen was this error message about libcrypto2.so not being big-endian in nohup.out again, right after I emerged the ebuild, but once I downloaded your library into /opt/zetagrid, everything started humming along smoothly.
Tantive, will you have to make a separate ebuild for PPCs or can this be integrated into the existing one? Great news about the top 150! We'd go shooting right through the roof if we could reactivate the dormant workstations on this "Michael Imhof" creature's account. By the way, there still seem to be some active GLUE units that haven't been assimilated... We did say resistance was futile, didn't we? |

Ok, Alexandria (dual athlon mp 1800's) and Mephisto (PPC G4@933mhz) have now joined the collective, since I'm now done with benchmarking and testing:) |

Finally, I've got it working.
This Duron 700 gonna be crunching around the clock. Better than nothing.

don't know why, but it just doesn't work here (no activity at all (0%), except you start/stop zetagrid). the zetagrid-client is running, of course... _________________ "Kazaa ist der beste MP3-Player den es gibt!"

works here, and it looks pretty cool
although when zetagrid is not running, it shows -1.00% cpu usage, which doesn't seem right ? I'm sure you can write a quick fix for this. _________________ No growth without resistance.

Could we use the grid ourselves, or make a gentoo grid for our own use? I'm thinking specifically of really fast compiles, emerges etc.
We could even cache results, so if someone compiles a source with particular flags/USE variables the result just get's downloaded. (no compile necessary. (hee hee kde 3.1 in under 10 minutes....)
I'm new to this so I'm probably totally off base, but ... would it be possible? |

Thanks
Available in sources at the same url ?
I'd be happy to do some further testing, and when you're sure it's kinda stable, be sure to submit an ebuild. It's pretty neat & useful. _________________ No growth without resistance.

Yup same url, same file.
I'll submit it, but I was thinking of getting the config gui done first, and I have no idea how the cpu usage behaves on SMP boxen. _________________ - Bluesman - |

I'm thinking specifically of really fast compiles, emerges etc. | The tools already exist, namely distcc (or OpenMosix) for distributing compilations, and ccache for storing the results of compilations. What you would need to do this with Gentoo users in general would be a big infrastructure. Considering the huge security concerns I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon, but it would be awesome to have in a local network if there were many Gentoo users.
The binary-sharing has been discussed before too; there have been many long discussions about the idea; here's one. _________________ Man must shape his tools lest they shape him. |

Bleusman: Gkrellm seems to segfault every now and then when using your plugin. Still gotta check on it, don't have much time now sorry. I'll try running it through strace, if that helps for you.
I'd be happy to try out the ebuild later, when I have some more free time (I really have to do some schoolwork now I'm afraid..).

bluesman's plugin works pretty stable here. still without any cpu-usage but that doesn't really matter. important is the progress-o-meter
btw bluesman: how about adding a performance index?

LOL, still?!
From what I found out it looks like that the previus getCPUusgage function was borked since the ps arx | grep .... command was since it sometimes captured the PID of the command itself. I fixed it, now it works for me.
Any ideas where to stick the performanceindex info? Top right corner? _________________ - Bluesman - |

We've made it! We're in the top 100!
If a proof of the Hypothesis is generated from ZetaGrid data today, we'll be eligible for about $2000 (I think: our 500 million zeros divided by 250 billion total zeros, multiplied by $1million, is $2000). Nice. _________________ Man must shape his tools lest they shape him. |
