Good god this is agrevating...
When is the 2005.0 due for release?
The past two news letters talk about it but do not say when; they just leave vaugue mutterings like " In view of the 2005.0 release date..." and "the changeover will occur at the same time as the 2005.0 release".
C'mon already, last I heard it was going to be released in January - yet here we are with the Jan. 24th newsletter and we still do not know. When will this new release take place? |

What's the rush? There's really nothing super special about the Gentoo Live CD updates. If you're syncing and updating your system regularly than you're already up to date, the CDs are just for new installs.

Is there any particular feature of the 2005.0 LiveCD that you are waiting for ?
Keep in mind that the LiveCD's version does not affect the version of Gentoo that ends up on your harddrive (unless you don't have an internet connection, but that is a different story ...) |

Not relevant in my case. I've got the components for a new AMD-64 machine I'm about to assemble, and I want to know if I should use the 2004.3 CD or wait for 2005.0. |

In my case I am about to do a fresh install from a stage 1 tarball. Not that I really need to, its just that my interest in gentoo is from the learning end. I learn more about the system (and Linux) from the issues I run into on installations, so I install frequently. Call me a gluton if you will, but I actually enjoy it . _________________ [img:16b094f8bf]http://www.danasoft.com/sig/Platoxia.jpg[/img:16b094f8bf] |

Hello,
I have been trying to get my brother to install gentoo, but he runs into problems getting wifi to work. I was wondering if the Uberlord scripts ect were going to be in 2005.0? For that matter will the new install CD's give wifi users *ANY* chance at all of being capable of getting wifi working? As it is I poked around on the 2004.3 cd and it did not look good at all for wireless. For those new to linux getting a wifi install going can be painfull to say the least. I really enjoy gentoo myself but then I have a good old fashioned Cat5 setup. For me wires are not a problem On a slightly different note I need to chime in wishing they would at least include a basic slackware-ish type gui install. Personally I dont have a problem with the current system of installing but man I have problems getting friends to "just try it" when they find out there is no "gui" installer....bleh.
Thanks for any info _________________ Linux- A way of life! |

Hmmm...didn't know this was there so thanks for the info. I still would like a round-about estimate as to when the full release will be if anyone knows. _________________ [img:16b094f8bf]http://www.danasoft.com/sig/Platoxia.jpg[/img:16b094f8bf] |
