Hi,
I just installed Gentoo on a box at work and i get strange times in my log files. For example in my exim_main.log I get these times:
Code:

2005-01-26 08:05:22 1CtiAz-0005gL-Gm <= sen@der.nl H=(rf2.rf) [10.0.0.2] P=esmtp S=1695 id=835E720734CDD6119B9300065B8CFC0601E18A79@rf2
2005-01-26 09:05:27 1CtiAz-0005gL-Gm => recip@ient.nl R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp H=mail.vrblaat.com [222.222.222.229]
2005-01-26 09:05:27 1CtiAz-0005gL-Gm Completed

for logging one sent email. There is exactly one hour time difference in tha various lines written inmy logs.

And in my /var/log/messages I get these times:
Code:

It seems like some daemons use a different time than others? Like the NTP daemon, the cron daemon and spamd, they have the wrong time when writing in the messages log.

This is the output of date and hwclock:
Code:
ASDRF8 root # date
Wed Jan 26 09:22:58 CET 2005
ASDRF8 root # hwclock
Wed Jan 26 09:23:02 2005  -0.400258 seconds

My local time zone is set to Amsterdam (I live there), so that must be OK right?:
Code:
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root root       36 Jan 24 15:12 localtime -> /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Amsterdam

How can running daemons use different time when logging?

Hmm, I finally rebooted and the problem corrected itself! (My first time a reboot fixes a problem with Linux, gives me the good ol' Windows feeling :D )
