hi, I get a lot of spam on my mail so I wanted to set up spamassassin
I don't have a mail server because my computer is not always on. I tought of setting up postfix or something to grab my mail from my pop3 account every X minutes and scanning it with spam assassin but this isn't really what I want because sometimes a friend of mine will send me an email and I want to receive it at that exact time when I refresh my mail client
so, I was wondering if it's possible to have mozilla fetch my mail from my pop3 account, then run it through spamassassin and then sort out the spam to another folder? |

I dont know about moz but it can be done with evolution. See this thread. Emerge evolution and give it a try. If you do get moz to run SA post back how. Im sure more than one person would be interested.

I used evolution for a while, then I stopped... it's just too heavy, has features I don't want (calendar, agenda, etc, etc), plus, when u click mailto: links, mozilla can't forward it to evolution...
I'll try to dig up more info, I'll post if I get something |

I found a mozilla project that wants to do the same thing as me, except the author used procmail to fetch his mail periodically... not good enough for me, so what I'm gonna do is, during this week if I have time , I'll make a pop3 spam assassin proxy... basicly a small C proggie that acts as a proxy between you and your pop3 server, it'll detect new mail, and run it through spam assassin before handing it out to you. At first it'll support only one pop3 server, but if new mozilla mail versions don't put my proggie out of business, I'll consider updating it |

First of all, you can't use Postfix to fetch your email. Postfix is an SMTP server, that is, it distributes email. You need fetchmail if you want to, ehem, fetch your mail
If you want anti-spam measures, you might want to try the latest beta version of mozilla, 1.3. It has some cool features against spam. _________________ O God, Thou art in Heaven...

woooops! did I say postfix? I meant to say procmail
I've seen the release notes of moz3.0 but you'll excuse me if I don't seem all that excited... you have to *train* mozilla to recognize the spam mail.
Anyway, it's a good learning project for me |
