I'm thinking of setting up a proxy server on the internet cafè I'm running/working in... The thing is when people log onto the steam network, it takes a long time to download the games.. I thought that if I had a proxy server running the files would be stored here, and shorten the download time dramaticly (from 8mbits to 100mbits).
Now I'm thinking.. Is gentoo the right distro? Probably not the right forum to ask..hehe..
But how do I approach the task? Of course.. I install gentoo.. But is it then pretty easy to setup? And what du I have to know about steam?
Thankfull for all answers.. _________________ Yes.. I'm a n00b... Only basic experience with redhat, fedora and Suse... Also used gentoo for a while som time ago.. half year or so... |

What you have to know about steam is basically also what will determine whether you can do this at all.
Protocol(s) used, TCP ports needed, authentication required (if any).
Steam is a proprietary system, and while there are OSS implementations of the client, that does not guarantee you an ability to log onto the server through (and more significantly, with) a proxy.
I'd take a long look at the steam website; maybe they have something you can drop in place, maybe it's impossible, maybe you can cobble something together... _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /
