This isn't an inhibiting problem, just something of curiosity and a bit of confusion. I have never encountered this in any of my previous installs, but when I log in (any user, root, my regular account, etc) I get this:

Code:

login(pam_unix)[6172]:session opened for user jason by (uid=0)

then the regular line telling me when my last login was for this user. I have just done a clean install, so everything should be nice and fresh. Is there a way to change this? What is going on here?

Thanks~

I've gotten this before. You either didn't install a system logger or forgot to start it, as was my case.

EDIT: Also remember to add it to the runlevels you use with rc-update.

ahhh thanks...it looks like I forgot to add my system logger, syslog-ng to the default runlevel. I can reboot for a little while so I dunno if it works, I shall update the post when I do. :O)

(not like it's a big thing...but maybe someone will find it useful)

You could just do /etc/init.d/syslog-ng start.
