Hey guys, I have what is probably a very unique request, b/c my parents are very picky about internet permissions and such, but I've finally convinced to get dsl internet. The only problem is, that they won't let me have it on MY gentoo box unless they have control over a number of things, so I have a couple of questions:
1) will msn9 premium be able to report the web pages I go to from gentoo? (I dual boot gentoo and win2k pro, if that means anything)
2) would I be able to prevent certain users on the system from accessing the internet, but allow others (so my parents would have to enter a password to log me on)

thanx in advance for any help in this situation!

Uh, call me crazy but I am going to bet msn9 premium won't run on linux.

and yes, there are ways to control internet access based on the user.

A little better description of the setup.

Example:
Code:

ISP (DSL)  ===> Router
                 ||
               ==========================
              ||         ||            ||
          Mom's          Dad's          Kid's
          puter           puter            puter
          (XP)             (XP)             (Dual)

Point is where will the monitoring take place? I know my router will allow me to restrict internet access several ways (time, key word, isp, etc) as well as logs of access.

Mark

yeah, that's how I'm going to have it set up. I'm not sure what you mean by the monitoring, and I probably wouldn't know anyway, but about the router, we will just be using the linksys router that came w/ our dsl package (verizon online ) will that be able to restrict internet access to different users on the same computer? I think if we can get it to do that, it will be good enough. Another thing that would satisfy my parents would be if our computer could be networked to the others, but unable to connect to the internet, would that work?
