Fonts are aliased in menu and taskbar, but fine elsewhere

I'm running fluxbox 0.9.11 on xorg 6.8 and trying to run a theme that specifies the font as nu. Problem is that the font is nu, but looks like this and not like this. The other onscreen fonts seem fine, it's just the taskbar and menu look really shocking. Any ideas why?

The menu and taskbar are controlled by your fluxbox theme settings. Try changing those.
