KDE No Display

I just finished "emerge --update --world" and afterwards all my X stuff is totally broken. Reconfigured X and got it to successfully startx, (successfully meaning with no errors displayed), the screen goes blank and then nothing. I can hear the kde startup sound in the background and if i wait until i am sure that it is booted up, I can exit kde through keyboard shortcuts, so I know that it is partially working in the background. Any suggestions on where I should go to fix this problem?

Hmmm... I suggest reading your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file and maybe printing out any errors here, because that certainly sounds interesting and new compared to other hanging screens and stuff... Also, what version of Xorg and KDE do you have now?
