I had this same issue. I did an
emerge sync
then set java to use the sun jdk instead of blackdown using
java-config -S sun-jdk-1.4.2.06
.
After this openoffice compiled without complaint. Hope this helps.

Hi partner... listen carefully and ur Open-Office will work :D go to www.openoffice.org and download the newest open offic for ur linux

then go in console

first af all make a directory called temp in the "/" directory

then use following commands:

tar xzf /ur file, no idea where u have it ill give an example

tar xzf /home/galabriel/Desktop/downloads/Openoffice.tar.gz -C /temp

then switch in the directory where u extracted the files

cd /temp/OpenOffice

then type this ./setup and u can use a graphical installer for ur open office

IMPORTANT DONT BE ROOT IF U INSTALL IT JUST NORMAL USER

greetings

galabriel

You don't seem to have enough RAM, OOo needs at least 256 MB to compile.

Use openoffice-bin instead.

After having searched more and read lots on this particular error code, it would seem that the error is realted to disk space or memory. Since the system I am running the emerge on only has 128 MB of RAM... I think that that's the problem. I will try to rememdy this and let you know if it helps. Thanks!

Openoffice is a resource hog when compiling. I think the min requirements for compiling it are 256MB of RAM and 4GB of free disk space.

I'm going to try and snag up some RAM from my other system and try this again tonight. If it works, then I'll start spreading the word. I see a lot of posts on here very similar to mine...
