Does Gentoo have plans to become a US DOD certified linux distro?

Gentoo lacks the financial resources to afford Orange Book certification, this is a question you should ask commercial distributions. Even scientific projects like RSBAC are unable to obtain DoD or even BSI (German Federal Agency for Security in Information Technology) certificates, simply because they're much too expensive.

Besides, what would you certify witrh? The fluid upgrade system means that Gentoo changes every hour, whereas a certification would only apply to a static version of Gentoo. Since no such static version exists, you would have to re-certify Gentoo practically every day.

There are quite a few developers who are checking out the POSIX/SUS specification and see if we can get Gentoo to follow it (which doesn't mean certify, because that'll cost again), but that's mostly a joint-venture of individual actions...
